What is a leader PT2

When I am leading from a place of health I see people through a different lens. I don’t see faults (except in squat form) I see the effort people are putting into things. I am also able to see the things I could do to improve as a leader.

In contrast when I am not leading from a healthy place I can see all of the things others are doing wrong. I become more critical of myself. The noise we have in our heads when we are not in a healthy place gets in the way of improvement. It can get in the way of relationships too.

One of the “Cooper Warrior Code” lines is:

3. Lead well. Coopers know that we are always leading. We are either leading people toward greatness or despair.

“Whoa that is intense James.” Yes I know it is. We are ALWAYS leading. Our influence is ALWAYS felt. Whether our leadership actually affects that person or not is a separate thing. At this point most of us have heard the saying, “You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with.” The time spent is the key there. If we spend time with people that are focused on health we will be focused on health. If we spend time with people that are really good with money, we will be good with money. You are all choosing to spend time with people that love the torture that is CrossFit.

As we choose to lead ourselves well, we gain the ability to say yes to the things that matter to us most. When we choose to be healthy leaders we say yes to our family, our pets, our futures. We say yes to our health. We say yes to the betterment of our overall lives. And then we get to be that little spark for our friends and family. We get to be the ones that invite them into a future of health. Keep leading yourself toward health. Keep leading those in class with you like so many of you already do so well. Keep showing up. Keep being healthy leaders.

Keep building,

James and Bre Cooper
